Match Preview | Exmouth Town v Kidlington

Edward Carter6 Sep 2024 - 16:04

Kidlington return to cup action, after being knocked out of the FA Cup 2 weeks ago by Yate Town, as we head to Exmouth Town in the FA Trophy.

Craig McKay’s Kidlington picked up their first point of the season as a goal from John Dennis meant the fixture ended in 1-1 with Hertford Town.

Exmouth Town suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 1-0 by Yate Town. A Marlon Jackson goal was enough to separate the two teams. The Town will be looking for revenge against Kidlington, as a victory for Kidlington last season knocked them out.

The Opposition

Exmouth Town, who currently sit in 7th Southern South division, have had an extremely positive start to the season under Kevin Hill. With 7 points on the table; the Devon outfit have take 2 wins from their opening 4, beating their December 2023 total. The Town will be looking to add to this seasons success’ as they look to advance through the FA Trophy by beating Kidlington. Both clubs saw defeat in their last cup competition fixture as Exmouth Town was beaten 2-0 by Brixham.

Exmouth’s most recent lost came from Yate Town, the team that knocked Kidlington out of the FA Cup, as a goal from Marlon Jackson. The Town will be looking to bounce back away from league action and progress through to the next round of the FA Trophy.

Team News

Craig McKay will bring most of his squad down to Devon, but unfortunately Sam Jenkins may be ruled out of an opportunity to play at the seaside town with his hamstring injury still causing issues.

Last Time Out

Kidlington picked up their first point of the season, as we drew to Hertford Town 1-1. A brilliant equaliser from John Dennis knocked Hertford out of the game. Kidlington then went on to dominate proceedings. However, the second goal wouldn’t come as Hertford stood strong and denied any ball entering their net.

Last Time We Met Exmouth Town

This fixture is a direct rematch for Exmouth Town as Kidlington knocked them out at the same stage last season. A brilliant 2-1 win for Kidlington on the 23rd September, will hopefully be repeated.
