After a restless 1-0 away win over a poor Aylesbury side, the Greens’ host Northwood FC in a big six-pointer, the biggest game down at Yarnton Road in a good few years.
Previously, Aylesbury hosted Kidlington in what was another must-win game for the Greens with sides around hitting their groove also. Leverstock found fortunes within the first 45 and eased to a 3-0 victory. Chances came quick and fast for Kidlington, including new signing Centre Forward Joel Odei-Larbi causing a danger. The real question was, when were they going to score! Domination from Kidlington both sides of the interval eventually led to Patrick Osborne heading it home from inside the six-yard box to give Kidlington the lead with just five minutes to go, and the only goal of the game as Kidlington battled with swagger to pick up all three points.
Everyone involved with the Club can now prepare to ask, can Kidlington really carry this momentum and help secure another season in Step 4, starting Saturday at the hands of Northwood.
Points are crucial no matter what stage of the season, and Kidlington have lost just once in their previous four. Wins on the road against Leverstock Green and Aylesbury, boosting them up to 18th place, outside the relegation zone for the first time in 18 weeks!
Yarnton Road wins have been hard to come by this season, but we need your full support this Saturday in what is arguably the biggest game this season at OX5. Aidan Hawtin’s squad has full momentum going into this fix-up, acknowledging that a positive result will guide them a step closer to survival despite Northwood having games-in-hand over the bottom half of the League Table.
On to our visitors who travel on Saturday to OX5, Northwood. A very chaotic week for the Woods as a two-nil defeat to Flackwell heath ending up being the last Woods’ game for Gary Meakin as he resigned graciously after defeat on Saturday.
Playoff seekers Barton Rovers took the trip to Northwood and managed to scrape a 90th minute equaliser to prevent Northwood earning an outstanding, well-earnt three points at the Skyline Stadium. Another confident performance for the Woods to take over to OX5 when they face Kidlington on Saturday. Northwood’s away form averages less than a point-per-game as from sixteen (16) away fixtures this season, they have only picked up ten points on the road, (W3, D1, L12). With both teams looking to improve their home/away forms on Saturday, it’s bound to be a nail-bitting, anticipating and enthralling encounter as Kidlington host Northwood.
Must. Win. Game.
Recent Form
Kidlington:
Kidlington 0-3 Flackwell Heath – Kidlington held their ground until eventually three goals in the second half killed Kiddy’s momentum on the game.
Leverstock Green 1-2 Kidlington – The big six pointer at the foot of the table and Kidlington showed real grit and determination to bounce back from a goal down to win the game 2-1 and boost morale within the squad.
Leighton Town 2-1 Kidlington – Aidan Hawtin’s first game back for the Greens didn’t go as expected due to the two goals which gave Kidlington a mountain to climb, however Fraser Allen’s wonder strike couldn’t salvage the great effort at the end by Kidlington.
Kidlington 1-1 Ware – Joey Aust’s late equaliser earnt Kidlington a valuable point from a game where Kiddy struggled to turn home momentum into any real threat in the attacking thirst, good determination for Aidan Hawtin’s squad after going a goal down early
into the second half.
Aylesbury 0-1 Kidlington – A game where Patrick Osborne’s close-ranged header was enough to give the Greens’ all three points in the Oxfordshire Derby as the scoreline was under suggestive about how well Kidlington created chance after chance and should have
scored more than what the scoreline states. This win pushes Kidlington outside the bottom three for the first time in eighteen weeks! Momentum gained.
Northwood:
Northwood 1-2 Hertford Town – Perez-Duah's spot kick gave the Woods’ a deserved one-nil advantage, just after half-time with fifty minutes gone in the game, the lead was cancelled out by Hertford Town before Ryan Bernal’s effort found the roof of the net to
give Hertford Town a well-fought and deserved away victory.
Real Bedford 5-0 Northwood – Josh Setchell gave the Pirates the lead after two minutes before the riot truly began, four goals down at the interval and Josh Setchell completes his brace for the league leaders to destroy the Woods’. Just outclassed on the day.
Northwood 1-3 Ware – Three goals and three points for Ware as Northwood tried their very best as they cut Ware’s early lead within twenty minutes before two schoolboy errors cost the Woods as they fell to yet another home defeat.
Northwood 0-2 Flackwell Heath – Gary Meakin signed off as Northwood’s manager with a sluggish, scrappy and dull defeat two-nil to playoff hopefuls, Flackwell Heath, as the Woods’ struggled to get going and put in a real effort to get a result out of this matchup.
Northwood 1-1 Barton Rovers – Northwood welcomed playoff contenders, Barton Rovers to the Skyline Stadium and the hosts’ gained momentum from the first whistle allowing Troy Perez-Duah's cracking effort to give Northwood the lead. Barton Rovers’ last attack
ended with a front-post header finding the back of the Northwood net to give Barton Rovers, a shocking, undeserved point away to the Woods.
